Silent spring

Somewhat to my surprise, it seems like there is some fairly heavy-handed moderation happening on this site.  Worse, this moderation appears to be either silent or disingenuously disguised as "bugs."  For example, since I can "review hidden comments," I assume I am a trusted user.  But at the same time, I cannot rate posts.  On another of my accounts, I can see zero-rated comments, but neither rate nor comment.  I assume these features have been disabled because I offended someone who knew the administrators, but I have received no email confirming this.

Let's see how long this diary lasts...

Re: Silent spring (none / 0)

We are all having the same problems.  I think you just happened to recommend the wrong diaries.  For shame.  check the diary about six spots down by kydoc.

Re: Silent spring (none / 0)

Thanks for the pointer.  I saw that one, but since I can't recommend it, I figured the best way to highlight the issue was to post my own particular take as a diary.

Re: Silent spring (none / 0)

Also posted this in the other diary on the same subject.

==

I'm the one that lost the ability twice in three days and then had it restored by Jonathan.  He told me that it was a technical glitch.

My theory for the first one is that I had given a zero rating to someone and an admin had removed that zero rating, causing a glitch with my user settings.

On the second time, I had recommended a diary that was then forcibly removed from the rec list, causing a glitch with my user settings.

Depending on which users are protected and which diaries are removed, a glitch caused by clearing a persons zero ratings or removing diaries from the rec list could be more likely to affect Obama supporters.

Lost rate and rec for issuing a '1' to a trollish comment. The troll, not so much.

Re: Silent spring (none / 0)

I've been there before too, where I could not up or down rate posts even though my mojo was rock steady, with the ability to see hidden comments. It happens and it will fix itself. (And i'm a Clinton supporter so no more consipiracy theories!)

Thanks for the datapoint.  I'm skeptical, but I'll wait and see...

I think having multiple (2.00 / 2)

accounts is called sockpuppetry.

Re: I think having multiple (none / 0)

Also "necessity" when the admins are capricious.  It's not like you can't figure out that I'm not "username2".

Admins what is going on (none / 0)

Your own members are accusing you of attempting a mass purge of "alleged" Obama supporters.

Nobody here is denying it.

Is this really how you want it to be?

Also to restricted members, please don't leave.  If we keep putting these diaries up they will have to respond.

I almost feel like we should go and comment in the admins main page diaries, there is no other way to contact them that i know of.

And here I assumed you were operating in good faith and gave you an honest response upthread...

FAIL, dude.  Go read Silent Spring to get the reference, and please email Jerome Armstrong to check up on the "conspiracy" claims.

I thought this was a diary about (2.00 / 1)

birds and/or pesticides.  Alas, it is not.

Re: I thought this was a diary about (none / 0)

Sorry to disappoint.  If I could change the title, I would call it (ironically, of course) "Silence of the sheep."

Let's see.  Apparently this one wasn't getting enough comments to attract the Wrath of Sauron.

Re: Silent spring (none / 0)

There's a couple comments about the problem being technical a glitch.  This could easily be the case if the glitch relates to users who rec diaries that get pulled.

I also saw that magilla's diary was just yanked.   I'm hoping mydd can give an explanation soon instead of just disappearing diaries.

by reggie23 on Thu May 01, 2008 at 06:04:00 PM EST

Re: Silent spring (none / 0)

Yea, other than it being removed I can only guess Magilla canceled her account, which im not sure you can even do with a click of a button.

Also Reggie, is there some method to know your Mojo an user status?

Jerome's response (none / 0)

Well, since we got no response to this thread I posted a comment addressing Jerome directly in his recent diary.

He responded with:
"There are people on both sides that are banned every day here. They break the guidelines and pay the consequence, regardless of whom they support. Quit dragging the threads off-topic."

Well, the point is, we were not banned.  We just cant rec or comment, yet have trusted user status.

Hopefully he addresses this.

No, not yet.

Did you log on and log off?

Or did it just come back inbetween a clicking?

Re: All is weel with the world (none / 0)

I figured we all got it back.  It must be that I emailed Jonathan Singer in the contact us link and explained everything.  He must have changed it for me.  He's always been really reasonable and quick to respond.  Make sure you state your user name in the email.

Re: All is weel with the world (none / 0)

I sent him a message.

Being the good little leebral I am, I made sure to mention to him that there were many more people, and that I honestly am (really am) more concerned that we all get access back.

I would hate to lose members,  this board is already REALLY small, which I like.

Re: All is weel with the world (none / 0)

Right, another reason I don't like Kos, way too many posters with quick one liners as answers.  I like the fact that you can carry on a conversation over here.
