Ratings abuse is probably approved, but...

I write to call out one of my numerically-named brethren, 4justice, as a shameless ratings abuser.  The normal solution to ratings abuse is a ratings retaliation war followed by a wary truce.  But since, as an Obama supporter, I don't get to rate comments here at MyDD, number four justice (N4J) can troll-rate without fear of retaliation.

It's not that I care that much.  N4J evidently can't hide-rate me, or s/he probably would have done so.  But since N4J contributes basically nothing to the site, it probably wouldn't hurt to disable his/her ability to give ratings.

Re: Ratings abuse is probably approved, but... (2.00 / 8)

An interesting thesis. Unfortunatley, you are now breaking a rule of the site as well:

*Users who are bashing or attacking any other user on the site, including authors of diaries and frontpage postings, will be banned. Candidates and politicians are fair game (but that doesn't mean you can use inflammatory language against candidates).

With that being said, I don't know if I buy you're complaint about 4justice, I will have to look at the posts further. But unfortunatley, you are now breaking site rules as well, and should be disciplined.

Please point to the "bashing."  That said, please take your time perusing 4J's rating stream.

I suspect that has something to do with candidate preferences, but you should look at the evidence for yourself.

The truth (2.00 / 6)

Hey there, when you blatantly violate site rules by insulting other diarists ("dogs and chickens") come to mind, or any of the candidates,or the site itself, these can be hidden, or given a "hide rate"

When you make an assinine comment, or hijack the diary, or when you yourself troll rate people for no reason than for disagreeing with you, they can recieve a "troll" rating.

I seen dozens of your comments and I think this last set of blatantly insulting comments deserved a response.

Oh, and BTW, you are violating site rules right now.

But, that's just my opinion. And, we ARE all entitled to that, aren't we?

Deep breath (2.00 / 10)

A good rule of thumb.

When you find yourself so aggravated with a poster in an online blog that you feel compelled to assmble an entire diary (complete with a poll) impugning that nasty username in the big endless cybersea...

it's probably a good idea to have a snack and get away from the computer!

If you want to have a flame war (2.00 / 2)

do it within a thread.  Don't clutter up the diary list with this kind of thing.  I agree with you that some people abuse their rating privileges (Note: I am not commenting on your allegations by saying this).  There is an appropriate way to bring this up if you feel you need to:  email the site administrators.  If your complaints are really valid, they may do something about it.  If not, well, it's their site.

Rules only apply to Obama supporters and (none / 0)

They are simply cover for silencing those who are in the minority.  My rating ability was disabled and I have never given a TR, insulted another poster, insulted a canidate or participated in any form of personal attack.  I e-mailed Jerome to ask why and never even received a response, why because there can be none, as I have abided by the TOS at every turn.  I'm not really upset but more disappointed, sad.   I'm sad that while people who abuse the rating system, call other posters names, disparage canidates retain the ability to post, voices of moderation who are not in the Clinton camp loose the ability to rate.  It's almost as if they want to create a echo chamber.

I am just wondering if your rating ability was disabled due to a software issue and not from management?  I read where someone loged out and cleared his history and the ability to rate came back.

but I cleared cookies and all other personal settings, my ability to rate has been suspended.  Like I said, I'm not mad just dissapointed.  If voices of dissent who do so with respect and within the TOS are silenced, what are you left with?

I will continue to post as I often find intresting diffrent perspectives but it is sad.
